POWs Who Died At Camp Ellis
There were four German POWs who died at Camp Ellis. They were originally buried at the Dobbins (sometimes referred to as the Clemens) Cemetery with wooden tombstones. This cemetary is on Maxwell Rd. off of Route 136 just west of Ipava. It was a part of the Camp and was left undisturbed thus was used. As the Camp was closing, their burials were moved sometime between the end of the war and 1947 to the Fort Sheridan Cemetery near Chicago, IL and marble tombstones were used. A total of 9 German POWs from World War II are buried together.
