ElaineAndMike.Com Train Watching Vermont
This map shows Vermont, IL as it was through most of its rail history. The first line through was the Peoria and Hannibal that ran through Ipava and terminated at Rushville. It became part of the CB&Q in 1862. The Rockford, Rock Island & St. Louis Railroad entered from Table Grove and left to Astoria in 1861. The Y south of town was added in the 1920s to give an alternate route with easier grades. Both the Astoria and Sugar Creek routes were used until the route south of Astoria was abandoned in 1961. The track to Astoria was removed much later as was the line to Rushville. |
