From January of 1953 until May of 1957, the Mark Twain Zephyr was assigned to service with the 9900 between Galesburg, Illinois and St. Joseph, Missouri, via Bushnell, Macomb and Quincy.

In 1912, Frank Holmes had the vision to build the first ever amusement park on North Lafayette Street in Macomb, Holmes Amusement Park. The park had a lake, a chute-the-chute boat ride, a roller-skating and ice-skating rink, a zoo that boasted a monkey from Madagascar, and swings. Park admissions were 10 cents per person.
